New horizons

The climb was tedious and all uphill,
Time was not testing my strength
but slowly and steadily gnawing at my will,
I thought I'd pass out before I reach the top,
I thought I'll fall and join the drowning lot.

But all the while something kept me going,
Some rivers within me refused to stop flowing.
Some birds that took flight refused to rest
Some cinders dying refused to give up their zest.

Some hands held on, and pulled me through
Some shoulders went down to push me up the roof.
Some smiles just refused to vanish
Some hearts had faith that refused to tarnish.

And that day has finally come,
When I am high enough to see the sun
work its magic on the valley below,
Its light is sharp but its warmth is slow.

Today the light is playing on my palm
Its making new figurines and playing with my calm
It's rekindled the cinders that are burning my lead
It's igniting new visions within my head.

Now that I have climbed so close to the sky
Its time to spread my wings and learn to fly.
